NOW ZMA Review

Whether you’re looking for a health product, food, or supplement, chances are you’ll find it at NOW Foods. And if you’re looking for a ZMA supplement, that’s no exception.

NOW ZMA is a sports recovery supplement meant to promote exercise recovery. Because physical activity requires zinc and magnesium, NOW ZMA contains a hearty dose to replenish your system after a workout.

Let’s take a peek at NOW ZMA.

NOW Foods

All ZMA supplements are fairly similar. But NOW ZMA has the benefit of being produced by a successful company.

NOW Foods, the makers of NOW ZMA, are a versatile company, to say the least. They believe that good health is not a luxury available only to the wealthy. Hence, they produce a wide variety of high quality health food and nutritional supplements at affordable prices.

NOW Foods began in 1968 and has apparently received many awards and recognitions. They also have their own store, Fruitful Yield.

The Better Business Bureau has given NOW Foods a C– rating, but there doesn’t seem to be any reason for this rating besides their concern with the industry in which it operates.

Interestingly, NOW Foods offers free online courses on health and nutrition on a website they call NOW University.

But should NOW ZMA make its company proud?

NOW ZMA Ingredients

While ZMA supplements are similar, each contains different amounts of the main ingredients. Like other ZMA supplements, NOW ZMA contains a combination of zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B6. Let’s take a closer look at the ingredient functions and amounts to see if NOW ZMA can be effective.

Zinc. Zinc is an essential mineral that’s required for cellular metabolism and even growth and development in children and adolescents. Because it is required for protein synthesis, zinc could help muscles grow and could even increase exercise performance.

The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for those older than 19 is 11 mg for males and 8 mg for females. With 15 mg zinc, NOW ZMA contains a 750% daily value. But it’s unlikely that the amount in NOW ZMA will cause side effects.

Magnesium. Magnesium maintains muscle and nerve function. Because of its role in regulating heartbeat, promoting muscle function, and supporting bone health, magnesium is important in exercise.

Magnesium’s RDA is 400 for males and 310 for females ages 19 to 30; for those over 31, it’s 420 for males and 320 for females. Many Americans don’t get enough magnesium from their diets, but more than 350 mg magnesium could cause kidney failure, diarrhea, or abdominal cramping in some users. NOW ZMA has 450 mg magnesium, a 133% daily value.

Vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 is part of many enzyme reactions and plays an important role in protein metabolism. It can also optimize performance and endurance.

The RDA is 1.3 mg for those 19 to 50; for those over 51, it’s 1.7 mg for males and 1.5 mg for females. NOW ZMA has 30 mg, or a 200% daily value. Too much can cause numbness, sensory changes, and difficulty coordinating movement (but this is usually at 100 mg or more).

NOW ZMA also contains a 2.4 g blend of zinc L-methionine, zinc aspartate, magnesium aspartate, and pyridoxine HCl. It’s unclear whether this blend is in addition to the other ingredients, but if so, NOW ZMA may contain even more zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B6.

What Benefits Does NOW ZMA Have for Consumers?

Based on what I’ve seen from user reviews, NOW ZMA may come with the following benefits:
• Muscle recovery
• Better sleep
• Increased energy

Most users were satisfied with NOW ZMA. Some, however, saw no benefits. A few experienced restlessness.

Does NOW ZMA Raise Testosterone Levels?

Some believe that ZMA supplements raise testosterone levels. However, that has not been the case. One study suggested ZMA has no effect on testosterone levels. [1]

NOW ZMA may have its benefits, but raising testosterone probably isn’t one of them.

Buying NOW ZMA

NOW ZMA is widely available. Here are some examples of the prices you’ll find:

Should I Buy NOW ZMA?

NOW ZMA could improve exercise and recovery. It comes from a reliable company. And it’s sold for an affordable price.

But it’s not proven to raise testosterone levels. If that’s what you’re looking for, search on.
