Is ZMA that miracle testosterone supplement you have been waiting for? In this review we’ll take you behind our research and analysis of ZMA.
In Depth Look at ZMA’s Ingredients
ZMA contains only 3 ingredients:
- Vitamin B6
According to manufacturers of ZMA pills, this basic formula increases the amount of free testosterone in the body.
Scientific Research on ZMA: How effective is ZMA? That all depends on who you talk to. The little scientific research that has been done on ZMA has produced mixed results.
There are three basic studies that have been done on ZMA.
Study #1-In 2004 a study was conducted that showed that ZMA had “no significant effects on total and free testosterone, IGF-1, growth hormone, cortisol, the ratio of cortisol to testosterone, or muscle and liver enzymes in response to training. No significant effects were observed in changes in strength, upper or lower body muscle endurance, or anaerobic sprint capacity”
Study #2- In 2006 in Germany a clinical study showed that ZMA had no influence on testosterone levels.
Study #3- In 1998 a study was conducted on NCAA football players. Players who used ZMA tablets claimed greater increases in muscle strength. Although this study sounds great, it was funded by the patent holder of ZMA, Snac Systems.
Is ZMA safe?
ZMA is relatively safe for most users. However there are some potential risks. Magnesium in ZMA has a laxative effect that can lead to diarrhea, stomach aches, and gastrointestinal distress (you might not want to wear white pants if you have a sensitive stomach). ZMA may also lead to an overdose of Zinc and Vitamin B6. A zinc overdose leads to nausea, dehydration, stomach issues, and headaches. Too much Vitamin B6 will lead to a numbness of hands or feet, muscle spasms, insomnia, and uneasiness. Be sure to drink plenty of water in conjunction with ZMA and do not take more than the recommended dosage.
ZMA should be taken on an empty stomach (at least 2 hours after your last meal and 30 minutes before taking any other supplement). After taking ZMA stay clear of any food that contains calcium. Calcium offsets the benefits of zinc.
Price and Guarantee Policy
There are plenty of testosterone supplements on the market containing ZMA. Prices vary from $15 to $30 a bottle plus shipping and handling. If you decide on a ZMA product, be sure to get the right dosages of zinc, magnesium, and Vitamin B6. Many ZMA products skim as a way of saving product costs (do not trust a proprietary blend). Most experts recommend 30 milligrams of zinc, 500 milligrams of magnesium, and 10 milligrams of Vitamin B6.
As with any supplement look for a money back satisfaction guarantee. Testosterone supplements are too expensive to waste your hard earned cash on a product that doesn’t work. I always look for a guarantee because it gives me the piece of mind that if the product doesn’t work, I can’t get my money back. It also shows that the manufacturers believe in their product.
ZMA is not the most expensive testosterone supplement, but there are no credible scientific studies backing its effectiveness and customer reviews are mixed. ZMA may work for you but I would not put money on it. There are much better testosterone supplements available.
